The marine areas surrounding Port Townsend offer some of the best bird, whale and marine wildlife watching in the Pacific Northwest. Harbor seals, Stellar and California sea lions, Dall’s and harbor porpoise, river otter are commonly seen and occasional Orca, Minke, Gray and Humpback whale are also possible on our Port Townsend Wildlife & Birdwatching Charters. Nearby Protection Island National Wildlife Refuge is a great place to spot bald eagles, tufted puffins, black oystercatchers, rhinoceros auklets, pigeon guillemot, murre and other summer nesting alcids, gulls and sea birds. During Fall, Winter and early Spring the North Olympic Peninsula hosts a variety of unique resident and migratory waterfowl including the beautiful harlequin duck, long-tailed duck, Pacific black brant, Barrow’s goldeneye, mergansers and three species of scoter.
