The marine areas near Port Townsend offer some of the best bird, whale and marine wildlife watching in the Pacific Northwest. Harbor seals, Stellar and California sea lions, porpoise, river otter, bald eagles are common sights and occasional Orca, Minke, Gray and Humpback whale are also possible on our Port Townsend Wildlife / Birdwatching Charters. Nearby Protection Island National Wildlife Refuge is a great place to spot tufted puffins, black oystercatchers, rhinoceros auklets, murre and more summer nesting alcids, gulls and other sea birds. During Fall, Winter and early Spring this area of the North Olympic Peninsula also hosts a variety of unique resident and migratory waterfowl including harlequin duck, long-tailed duck, Pacific black brant, Barrow’s goldeneye, mergansers and three species of scoter.
